LaVerl Theon Southworth (Verl)
1938 ~ 2006

LaVerl Southworth, 68, died the evening of November 21, 2006 after a long painful battle with numerous health problems. Verl was born to Theon William Southworth and Sylvia (Parkin) Southworth on May 22, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah. After graduating from East High School he married Norma Mary-Ann Olsson on November 23, 1956 and they made their home in Salt Lake City. Verl became a firefighter in 1967 and retired after 25 years of service. He also served in the Army National Guard and then in the Reserves. He loved the sun, the water, his family and he had a passion for animals. The children were in the process of planning the celebration of Norma and Verl's Golden Wedding Anniversary on November 23rd. Instead, Verl is experiencing another celebration prepared by a Higher Power. He is survived by his wife, Norma; three children, Carrie (Brent) Newbold, Craig (Karla) Southworth, Cindy (Steve) Prestwich; four grandchildren, Derick and Devan Newbold, Katie Morrison, Stephanie Prestwich; one sister, Gayle M. Southworth Ferguson and his little neighbor friend Leah. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sylvia June Jones. The entire Southworth family wishes to thank all the medical staff that has treated Verl over the years. A special thanks to the staff at Care Source for their compassionate care. A Memorial Service will be held on Sat., December 2, 2006 at 2:00 pm with a visitation one hour prior at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr., Salt Lake City.
