J. Roy Stones
1923 ~ 2009
J. Roy Stones passed away June 12, 2009 at home with his devoted wife at his side. Roy was born February 19, 1923 in Garfield Utah to John Moroni and Letha Mae Stones. He attended schools in Salt Lake and graduated from West High. He also attended the University of Utah. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Salt Lake City in World War II. Upon returning he married his sweetheart Betty Lou Jones in the Salt Lake Temple December 13, 1945. Together they raised and survived four sons. He relished serving 21 years in the Salt Lake Fire Department. He then worked for the Utah State Tax Commission. After retirement Roy and Betty served an LDS mission in Jackson Mississippi. He was devoted to his wife and greatly enjoyed time spent with family, especially his 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grand children. He was a valiant member of his church and served well in many capacities. He loved dancing with his wife and spent summers enjoying Hebgen Lake He is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Stones, sister Elsie Jones, sons Roy (Hortensia), Michael (Suzie), Dennis (Fern), Brian (LuAnn). He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Delvene, Jay and Claude. With special thanks to Roy, Hortensia, Dennis and Fern for their devoted time in attending to his needs. The family wishes to express thanks to their wonderful neighbors. Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 11a.m. at the Ensign Stake Center, 2nd Avenue and A Street. Friends may call Monday evening at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday at the ward one hour prior to services.
