Michelle R. Welch
1954 ~ 2009

Michelle was born in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, on December 24, 1954, to Ray S. Welch and Ruby McCombs Welch. She is preceded in death by her father. She's survived by her mother, sisters Sharon Teets (Mike), Radnor, OH., and Pam Welch (Kent Nielsen) Kauai, HI., and nephew William Teets and niece Diana Teets, both from OH. She left this earth on November 21, 2009. Raised as an Army brat, she traveled throughout the world, attending many schools, finally putting down roots in Utah where she graduated from Highland High School. Her first love was her dogs from German Shepherds, Cocker Spaniels, to Toy Fox Terriers and Chinese Cresteds. An occasional cat or bird was thrown into the mix to enliven the household. If she could, she would have liked to own a horse, as well. She had a great love of the outdoors fostered by her family who spent many vacations at a cabin at Strawberry. Her favorite outdoor destination was Yellowstone National Park, which she tried to visit every year, rejoicing to see the wildlife of which she stood in awe. She was a hard worker and rarely turned down an opportunity to earn overtime. Over the years she had several jobs: Records clerk for the S.L.C.P.D. and Parking Enforcement officer. In 1983 she was hired as a dispatcher for the S.L.C.F.D. She was an active member of A.F.S.C.M.E., Local 1004. She served as Executive Board Member and Chief Steward, and was an integral member of the negotiating team. She received several awards for excellence in dispatching. The most recent was directing crews to an accident victim who didn't know where she was, keeping her on the phone, calming her, until help arrived. She retired in 2009. She was well loved by family and by the many friends whom she considered as part of her own. Memorial service will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 S. Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah 84106 on Wednesday, December 9th, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Flowers welcome or a donation may be made in her name to the Humane Society of Utah, 4242 South 300 West, Murray, Utah 84107.
