Frank E. Florence

Frank E. Florence, age 67, passed away at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Ma. on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was the son of Lloyd Edward and Helen Morrison Shaw Florence.
Frank was born on March 28, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He attended the University of Utah and is a graduate of the national Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program. He also graduated from the Harvard University Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government. Frank and his wife Diane were married in Salt Lake City, Ut., on May 16, 1964. They later solemnized their marriage on their 16th wedding anniversary in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Frank has been a resident of Foxborough, Ma. for the past 12 years.
Frank was a firefighter with the Salt Lake City fire department for over 31 years. He started his career in 1964, and worked his way up the ranks retiring as Fire Chief in 1995. He then served as a Senior Fire Service Specialist with the National Fire Protection Association for the past 12 years, where he was responsible for fire codes and standards development for several NFPA standards. Frank was the NFPA liaison to the International Association of Arson Investigators, the National Association of Fire Investigators, and the International Fire Service Training Association. He was also a member of the Commission of Fire Accreditation International and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.
Frank was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in many callings including Sunday School President, Counselor in the Bishopric, and Member of the Stake High Counsel. Frank’s favorite calling was serving as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple along with his wife, Diane, for upwards of 8 years.
Beloved husband of Diane P. (Proctor) Florence. Loving father of Randy Frank Florence of Hull, Ma., and Robert Lloyd Florence and his wife Kathie of Alpharetta, Ga., and the late Richard Louis Florence. Devoted grandfather of Logan Randy and Ian Robert Florence. Brother of Sue Beckstead and her husband Howard of Salt Lake City. Son-in-law of Willis H. and V. Beth Proctor of Salt Lake City. Brother-in-law of Danny Proctor of Salt Lake City, Linda Barrett and her husband Gary of South Jordan, Ut., and the late Brent Proctor. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Frank will be truly missed by his family who loved him so much.
Funeral services will be held at the Garner Funeral Home, 1001 11th Ave., Salt Lake City, Ut., 84103 on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 1 pm. A viewing will be held Monday evening August 2, 2010 from 6-8 pm. An additional memorial service will be held in Massachusetts at a later date.
