Gale Bernard Nell
"Chick"

Gale Bernard Nell age 82, died peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer on the 25th day of May 2011. Gale was born in Riverton, Utah to Vernon James Nell and Margaret Ekman on May 7, 1929. He married Lola Bodell on October 13, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of five children, 24 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Gale was given the nickname "Chick" at an early age and it has stuck with him his entire life. Chick always had a positive attitude, a quick smile and a twinkle in his eye. He was a loving, compassionate and generous man who touched the lives of many people. Dad cared about others and always made sure that no one went without. He was willing to go the extra mile and always stayed with the job until it was done. Dad taught strong family values and instilled the importance of remembering and caring for those who were in need. As a young married couple Chick and Lola served for many years in the Jaycees and enjoyed the friendships they made there. He served on the Riverton Town Council and was a member of the Order of the Elks. Chick served as a fireman for Salt Lake County for thirty years where he retired with the rank of captain. C&J repair, a business he started years earlier became his main focus after retiring from the fire department. Through this business Chick gained many friends and lifelong associates. We cannot emphasize enough how much these friendships meant to him. Dad had a strong work ethic and loved his business, especially interacting with people. Even with the pain of his disease Dad found happiness in going to work. He loved vacationing with his family and they saw many wonderful places together. He loved camping and outings with his family on the West Desert. He enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting. He is survived by his children Sherrie (CJ) Lawrence of Herriman, Susan (Dennis) Stefanoff of Delta, Sandy (Bonnie) Nell of St. George, Gina (Jim) Butterfield of Herriman, James (Sherry) Nell of Herriman. Sister Marjorie Flanders, brother Norval Nell and his wife Barbara and sister-in-law Susan Nell. He is preceded in death by his wife Lola, parents, sister Latrecia and brother Vernon James Jr. Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 1st 2011 at 11:00 at the Pioneer Ward LDS chapel located at 13375 S. 6000 W. Herriman, Utah.
