Leo Ritchie Rogers, 1908 ~ 2006

OGDEN - Leo Ritchie Rogers, 97, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2006. He was born December 4, 1908 in Blanding, Utah to Willis and Elizabeth Ritchie Rogers. He was raised and educated in Blanding. He farmed in Idaho for a few years and spent most of his life in the Salt Lake City area. On September 18, 1933 Leo married Norma Abbott in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on September 5, 2004. He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Leo initially worked for the railroad but his life long career was as a firefighter. In 2004 he was recognized with a 70 year service award from the Utah Firefighter Association. Until his death he was the oldest living retired firefighter in Utah. He was one of the first EMT's in Utah and was an instructor with the Civil Defense Depot. He took great satisfaction in his vital role of establishing the Utah Firefighters Retirement Fund. The family expresses special thanks to Emeritus Estates and Applegate Hospice for their loving care. Leo is survived by four children, Margaret (John) Ashby, Cedar City; Sandra (Richard) Ottesen, North Ogden; Don Rogers, Salt Lake City; Coleen (Stan) Serr, Idaho Falls, Idaho; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Avard Rogers and Klint Rogers. Including his wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, one son, and two grandsons. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 21st at 1:00 p.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 North 400 East. Friends and family may call at the mortuary on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery.
